From this initial beginning, the Arizona office quickly began taking on significantly more office and industrial projects as the Phoenix area experienced rapid commercial growth, including a 400,000-square-foot distribution center for KB Toys in Glendale and a 40,000-square-foot office building for NCS in Mesa.
By the early 2000s, it was clear Ryan had established itself as fulfilling a need for complete, design-build, development and management services in Arizona’s booming commercial real estate market. The office offered integrated construction and development as well as asset, property and facilities management services, and their list of customers grew with projects for Del Webb, Honeywell, DMB, Dial Corp, Motorola, Avnet, ASML and Edwards Jones, among others.
In 2001, they completed downtown Phoenix’s newest skyscraper, the Phelps Dodge Tower, and moved into offices on the 13th floor where they remain to this day. That same year, the Arizona office was recognized for the first time by NAIOP with their “General Contractor of the Year” award and was designated the “#1 Commercial Developer” by Ranking Arizona.
Today, the Arizona office has grown to 85 employees and has completed 13 million square feet of development. Wells Fargo, AT&T, Humana, US Bank, ConocoPhillips, TASER International and others have joined the continually growing list of clients who turn to Ryan for real estate development, general construction, design-build, tenant improvements and property management.
The Arizona office is not only passionate about building good relationships with its customers and subcontractors, its employees are actively weaving our values of partnership and caring into the communities we serve, with active involvement in organizations that advance development industry standards, such as NAIOP, ABA, Valley Partnership, CORENET, IREM, ULI and BOMA. 100 percent of the Southwest Office’s employees are involved in supporting local nonprofits including the Arizona Science Center, Childhelp, Brophy College Prep, Junior Achievement of Arizona, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona, The Phoenix Symphony, Valley of the Sun United Way and more.
The Arizona office is honored to have received numerous awards over the years, including seven Ranking Arizona’s #1 Commercial Developer awards; a second NAIOP General Contractor of the Year award; a National Design-Build Award for development of TASER International’s headquarters in Scottsdale; Phoenix’s first Gold LEED Certification for the NCA/CASI building at ASU Research Park; and an APS Energy Award for Northern Arizona University’s College of Business Administration building in Flagstaff. The Phoenix office has either completed and is developing approximately $100 million of LEED projects, and 50% of our project managers are LEED accredited professionals.
