Ryan Wins 2007 Excellence in Concrete Award from the Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association
We do things just a little differently around here. See how we build relationships that last.
NEWS RELEASE - CEDAR RAPIDS Ryan’s self-performed concrete division, along with Rex’s Custom Concrete, United Concrete, Inc, and Kleiman Construction, Inc. were awarded the Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s Excellence in Concrete Award in the large commercial/industrial building category (>5,000 cubic yards).
The Project, the Isle of Capri Hotel and Casino in Waterloo, Iowa, represented a major success for Iowa’s self-performed concrete division. Congratulations to the team of Keith Sams, Kerry Willert, Mike Jones, John Windolf, Becky Anderson, Julie Shimek, Jeff Ciha, Dave Siegel, Doug White, Gary Meyer, and Jeff Christensen.
The picture above shows the EFCO table forms that were used for the hotel pours. These forms spanned half the width of the hotel, and they were moved by crane and rolled into place as each new level was completed. Besides implementing this innovative method, time was the greatest challenge this project faced. The post-tensioned hotel needed a fast track mix that was pumpable and workable, while achieving 3,000 psi in eighteen hours. With a low W/C ratio and the use of a mid-range water reducer, all parties achieved their goals and the hotel was finished on schedule. Concrete played many roles throughout the rest of the project, as over 17,000 cubic yards were placed with no loads rejected.
