Ryan Companies US, Inc. is pleased to announce the completion of the Minnesota Autism Center (MAC) school expansion in Eagan, Minnesota. The new two-story, 50,000-square-foot school is located on 6.5 acres directly west of MAC’s existing school building and will allow room for an additional 150 students and 130 staff members. The school will open its doors September 6, 2016 and offer education services and therapeutic support for children, adolescents, and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders, or ASD.

To commemorate the completion, MAC hosted a grand opening celebration on August 11 with desserts, beverages, and testimonials by staff and families. Guests had the opportunity to tour the facility including the collegiate gymnasium, breakout spaces, media center and more.

“The Minnesota Autism Center is proud to partner with supportive community members, Ryan Companies, and RSP Architects, in this ground-breaking project,” said Kathryn Marshall, CEO, Minnesota Autism Center. “With ten facilities across the state and services in 38 Minnesota counties, MAC continues to be the leader in supporting kids and families affected by autism now and into the future."

The design team took on the challenge of accommodating the unique needs of MAC’s students while simultaneously providing the look, feel and function of a traditional high school. Further, RSP Architects and the Ryan construction team collaborated to efficiently design the facility to be first class quality yet still remain within an aggressive budget. Unique components of the facility include an outdoor green space with a baseball diamond and track with stadium lights, a gym, media room, and a unique gathering space connecting the gym and cafeteria wings to the classroom wing. In addition, the team incorporated a number of sustainable features including low VOC paints and adhesives, sourced FEC wood, water bottle filling stations, native landscape plantings, storm water filtration systems and occupancy sensors.

“This has been a very rewarding project to be a part of as the new facility will allow MAC to continue their mission and positively impact kids and families affected by autism. The entire MAC team has been an absolute pleasure to work with and, on behalf of the Ryan team, I am very proud to have worked on this project for such a special organization,” said Dan Mueller, Director  of Development, Ryan Companies.

Ryan provided development, civil engineering, preconstruction and construction services. Other partners include RSP Architects and Ericksen Road & Associates.
