Ryan Completes Phase Two of Friendship Village Tempe Senior Living Community
We are excited to announce the completion of the second phase of a master plan renovation on the 50-acre campus of the Friendship Village Tempe senior living community in Tempe, AZ.
As part of phase two, our construction team demolished an existing building and went ground up with a brand-new four-story 142,619-SF building home to 64 independent living residences, four guest suites and 69 underground parking spaces.
“The successful second phase of Friendship Village Tempe serves as a remarkable testament to our team’s capabilities and communication between our construction and Ryan Architecture + Engineering (A+E) teams, as well as our collaboration with our partners and client,” said Beau Brush, vice president of construction operations, Southwest region, Ryan Companies. “The opening of this new building meets the needs of a growing senior population in the area with well-appointed residences, top-tier amenities, and proximity to several dining and retail options.”
Friendship Village Tempe, regarded as one of the region’s first continuing care retirement communities, was originally built in the 1980s and was due for revitalization. Knowing the expertise of our senior living design and building capabilities, Friendship Village selected Ryan to successfully execute the project and achieve their goals. The revitalization of its campus began with phase one construction in 2019. Ryan was the builder of both phases, and Ryan A+E Inc., Ryan’s design studio, served as the architect for both phases. The project was developed by LCS Development and will be managed by LCS.
One of the community's most unique and attractive amenities is Starfire, a full-service rooftop restaurant and microbrewery. Residents will have a chance to get involved in the brewing themselves, as the community has hired a brewmaster to teach tenants how to brew their own beer; an intentional effort to inspire connection and create community. Starfire was also constructed to continue the trend of active resident engagement on the community’s rooftop. Residents can now access a connected walkway from Starfire to the first phase building, which features multiple rooftop pickleball courts, offering more opportunities for residents to stay active, connect with others and have fun.
“Friendship Village Tempe is very excited about completing phase two of our master plan with the Ryan team while welcoming our new friends who have chosen to live with us,” said Cole Marvin, executive director, Friendship Village Tempe. “Together we have been able to design and build homes that we are proud of and are conducive to the fun and exciting lifestyle we have become known for. We look forward to working together on phase three and offering more trendsetting amenities for our residents to enjoy and meeting the strong demand for what we offer.”
Phase three construction is scheduled to begin in Q2 2025. Ryan has built more than 60 senior living communities across the country, and Friendship Village Tempe phase two marks Ryan’s ninth senior living project in the Southwest.
